Workshop on Diabetes by Janna Yang
Diabetes Awareness and Management for Adults
In her informative talk, Janna Yang, a 4th year medical school student of Touro University, California, provided a comprehensive overview of diabetes - what it is, the common risk factors, and effective strategies for prevention and management.
Janna explained the basics of diabetes, highlighting that it is a chronic condition where the body is unable to properly regulate blood sugar levels. This can lead to serious complications if left unmanaged.
A significant portion of the talk was dedicated to dietary guidelines for diabetes prevention and management. Janna stressed the importance of making healthy food choices, controlling portion sizes, and being mindful of carbohydrate intake. She explained how physical activity can help regulate blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, and support overall wellbeing. Janna's emphasis on self-care, healthy eating, and an active lifestyle empowered the audience to take a proactive approach to their health.
Kaiser Permanente's Dr. Jennifer Ng talks about serving the Chinese community
Dr. Jennifer Ng is an Internist at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco.
She understands that the language barrier is a barrier for patients to communicate with their doctors. Having a translator is helpful, but it is still not the same as talking to a doctor who speaks the same language. Dr. Ng is passionate about serving the Chinese community with her language capacity.
